As we gather in Las Vegas for another CinemaCon, Lionsgate is delighted to spend time with you throughout the week as we celebrate our shared wins and look ahead to the incredible films we have in store for you.
When we last met, we were looking forward to The Housemaid. Since then, stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, director Paul Feig, and producer Todd Lieberman delivered the breakout hit of the season, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide and launching the studio’s newest franchise. The film’s success speaks to the power of the theatrical marketplace and we can’t wait to bring you more sexy, thrilling stories from our favorite Housemaid, Millie.
This year, we are bringing you two of the most highly anticipated movies from any studio – Michael and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
The first is hitting your theaters next week. When we debuted the teaser trailer for Michael in November, it set records—the biggest trailer launch in our studio’s history and the biggest all-time trailer launch for any music biopic with over 116 million views in its first 24 hours. That is a testament to the massive audience demand for all things Michael Jackson, and the movie—from Academy Award®-winning producer Graham King, director Antoine Fuqua, and Oscar® nominated screenwriter John Logan—will deliver all that audiences want from a big-screen viewing experience. Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the rise of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of The Jackson 5 to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.
In June, acclaimed filmmaker John Carney (Once, Sing Street) returns with a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition. In Power Ballad, when Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves—even if it means risking everything he cares about.
In August, Jason Statham returns to Lionsgate, teaming with Jean-François Richet (Plane) for the action-thriller Mutiny. After witnessing his billionaire boss’s murder and being framed for the crime, Cole Reed (Jason Statham) boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss’ death only to discover an international conspiracy.
On November 20, we return to Panem with the next installment of the multibillion-dollar box office Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Based on Suzanne Collins’s bestselling novel, the film takes place 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, the Haymitch story for which fans have been asking for years. The film features an A-list cast headed by Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, and Kelvin Harrison Jr., alongside young actors Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, and Whitney Peak. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Oscar® nominee Billy Ray and produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Francis Lawrence, and the first trailer has already set records for the biggest trailer launch in Hunger Games franchise history.
Our slate’s momentum continues to build into 2027 with director Mel Gibson returning for his two-part epic The Resurrection of the Christ, with the first part debuting on Good Friday, March 26, 2027. The Resurrection of the Christ is Gibson’s follow-up to the blockbuster The Passion of the Christ, one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time domestically, taking in $370 million in North America and $610 million worldwide. The Resurrection of the Christ is now in production and Mel is bringing to these two new films all of the energy, emotion, and enthusiastic storytelling that made The Passion of the Christ a landmark hit. We’ll have more to share about these incredible films soon.
Also in 2027, we have two films from our friends at Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment: the sci-fi action thriller Karoshi, and Caine, the John Wick spinoff directed by and starring Donnie Yen, who reprises his fan-favorite role from John Wick: Chapter 4. Also coming in 2027 is Day Drinker, starring Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in an original supernatural action film directed by Marc Webb. You will be hearing more from several other iconic franchises in 2027 as well, with Saw back in the hands of series creator James Wan along with Jason Blum; the same team is also hard at work with a fresh take on the legend of the Blair Witch for your theaters.
As always, Lionsgate remains committed to bringing a diversified slate of bold, fresh, and original films to your screens. Working with your support, we remain committed to discovering new, homegrown IP and developing it into new franchises that keep audiences returning to your theaters—just as we’ve done with The Hunger Games, John Wick, and The Housemaid. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership throughout 2026 and in the years to come.
